FUSSEN!

After hamburg, we went to bavaria...a little castle town called FUSSEN!

This is Hohenschwangau castle, the childhood home of Bavaria's King Ludwig II

This is Neuschwanstein castle, which King Ludwig II was having built, but died mysteriously in a lake before it was finished and he never got to live in it. He had an apparent obsession with swans, hence the name, and there were lots of swany things inside, like statues. We got to tour the inside (with a guided tour only). We weren't allowed to take photos, but it can only really be described as overdone in everyway! This is the castle that inspired Walt Disney's Princess Castle.

The view from the castle onto the Alps

We were camping about 6km outside of the town in a field. Nice washrooms, a view of the Alps and cheap cheap cheap!

The lake near the camp ground, again looking onto the Alps

A view of Neuschwanstein from a very very high bridge

Every castle needs its princess

A very ornate church inside the town. The outside was just plain white and square, giving no clues to the fancy-ness of the inside!

Most of the buildings in Fussen were frescoed, with signs, pictures and decorations painted directly onto them.

This women was handing out tickets to a play, and had directly avoided us several times before I finally was able to get her attention to ask her for a photo. Yes, I know, it's weird.

Camping in a German field = slug attack

An old (1800's) defense building found randomly in a park by the (very blue/green) river
