Athens, Greece

Met some really awesome londoners on the train from Bulgaria to Athens. We had an excellent conversation that keept us all up way too late, but we had fun and laughed into the night...
Athens was: Taxi, almost ripped off by taxi but Lance laid tha word down, Acropolis, Taxi back, outtie.

Molly's Translation: We only had a few hours, so we took a taxi to the Acropolis! The guy tried to rip us off: it was 10euro, we gave him a 20, he tucked it away and held out a 5, and in now-broken English, tried to tell us that we only gave him a 5 and needed to pay 5 more. Confusion and arguing ensued, and we eventually got the 10euro change. This almost happened a few other times. Lesson: let the person know you know how much you're giving them!

A cat, hanging out by the ancient ruins.

It was nice and early and cool and empty when we first arrived, so the first bit was quite nice! Then as we ventured up to the main part, we noticed that there were HOARDS of tourists, complete with tour guides holding up signs and saying 'over here please!'. It was harder to move from that point.

A nice photo of us :). We also had a photo of the duck here, but were promptly told that it was 'not allowed', for no other reason than that it was 'not permitted', and were forced to erase the photo in front of the person!

But we snuck another one anway, heh.

See the little hole on the back left hand side of the roof? There was a hole in the ground that was said to be from Zeus' lighting, so when the temple was built, the left a hole in the floor and a hole in the roof since it was so sacred. I might not have paid for a tour guide, but my ears can't help if they hear a free tidbit, heh.

Athens is an extremely large city.

Performances still go on in the amphitheatre!

The building machines and scaffolding took a bit away from the whole 'ancient' experience.

Heading towards Patras to take the ferry to Italy, and on a major time schedule at this point, we were absolutely tortured by the most beautiful oceans ever wittnessed.

Once on the ferry, we could still see some pretty Greek-ness as we passed by these Islands. I could hear them singing ABBA songs from way over here.
